Wytheville, VA — Each year, Virginia Premier recognizes an outstanding practitioner who has exemplified safe clinical practice and delivery of quality care, as well as service to their community. Virginia Premier announced this week that the recipient of its 2019 Practitioner Golden Globe Award is Matthew Aney, M.D. of Wythe Bland Pediatrics in Wytheville.

Virginia Premier is committed to making quality medical care more accessible. Through the Premier Population Health and Wellness Program, healthcare providers open their offices to Virginia Premier members for one full day of open appointments. In addition to completing recommended health services, the members receive health education materials and giveaways from Virginia Premier provider engagement coordinators. These fun and engaging events not only help ensure members receive important medical exams and immunizations; they also help deepen the connection between providers and the communities they serve.

Dr. Aney and his staff have shown an exceptional commitment to Virginia Premier’s youngest members. Beginning in September 2018, he has held monthly wellness events that have improved the practice’s member compliance rate by more than 50%. Among other recommended health services, participation in lead screening and childhood immunization for rotavirus has increased by 78% and 72% respectively. Overall, Wythe Bland Pediatrics has had a remarkable 99% member participation rate in these wellness events.

“Having providers like Dr. Aney is invaluable to Virginia Premier’s mission of making care right every day,” said DeAnna James Anderson, director of population health. “The health and wellness of children is especially important to us. We’re grateful for Wythe Bland Pediatrics’ exceptional service to Southwestern Virginia kids and their families.”

Virginia Premier recognized the accomplishments of Dr. Aney and his staff during a celebratory lunch at their practice in Wytheville on Wednesday, June 25.
