The Safe Way for Babies to Sleep

Blog-SafeSleep-1250x300

Babies don’t just need a lot of sleep, they also need to sleep safely.

Fortunately, parents only need to remember three things to keep their baby safe while they sleep — Alone, Apart, Always.

Let’s take a look at what they mean.

Alone

Your baby should sleep alone in their sleep space. Put them on a firm surface and on their back in a crib or bassinet with a fitted crib sheet, unless your doctor says otherwise. It’s OK for their crib or bassinet to be in the same room as you, so you can keep them close by.

Apart

Your baby should sleep apart from any objects which could put them at risk. This includes pillows, blankets, toys, etc. Save the toys for supervised play time instead.

Always

Always make sure your baby benefits from safe sleep practices every time they go to sleep, and with every caregiver. Always place your baby on their back on a firm and flat surface. And make sure that your baby is fed and clothed properly, and never expose them to second-hand smoke.

These safe sleep practices are vital to preventing Sudden Unexpected Infant Death (SUID).
