April is National Donate Life Month, a time devoted to increasing awareness of the need for organ, eye and tissue donors. According to United Network for Organ Sharing, there are currently more than 100,000 men, women and children in the United States who are waiting for lifesaving organ transplants.
Organ and tissue donation is more important than many of us realize. Committing to be an organ donor is a generous decision that gives thousands of people each year a renewed chance at living full and active lives.
However, there are far more people in need of transplant than there are people willing to donate an organ. Register to be an organ donor.
Why should I register to be an organ donor?
- 22 people die each day because the organ they need is not donated in time
- One organ, eye and tissue donor can save and heal more than 75 lives
- Every 10 minutes, a new person is added to the national transplant waiting list
